About the Journal
SAJARI is a peer-reviewed, fully open-access biannual journal dedicated to advancing agricultural research, innovation, and sustainable development across the Sahelian and sub-Sahelian regions — and comparable agro-ecological zones globally.
Published by SAJARI Publications at the Faculty of Agriculture, Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, Nigeria, the journal serves as a rigorous, open-access platform for scientific inquiry addressing the food security, climate resilience, and rural development challenges unique to arid and semi-arid Africa.
"A globally recognised, Africa-centred agricultural research journal that bridges the gap between scientific discovery and practical application."

Scope & Coverage
SAJARI welcomes high-quality original research across all disciplines of agricultural and natural resource science, including fisheries, wildlife, macro- and micro-livestock, and cross-disciplinary studies at the interface of agriculture and other fields.
Variety trials, agronomic practices, crop physiology and production systems for arid and semi-arid conditions.
Cattle, camels, horses, donkeys, and other large ruminants — breeds, nutrition, reproduction, health management, and productivity in Sahelian and sub-Sahelian production systems.
Sheep, goats, rabbits, grasscutters, guinea pigs, snails, and other small ruminants and micro-livestock — genetics, nutrition, management, and value chain development.
Inland and artisanal fisheries, fish farming, aquaculture systems, fish nutrition, post-harvest handling, and sustainable fisheries management in the Lake Chad Basin and comparable water bodies.
Wildlife ecology, habitat management, human–wildlife conflict, conservation genetics, game ranching, and biodiversity of wild species in Sahelian and savanna ecosystems.
Molecular breeding, genomic selection, CRISPR applications, and emerging biotechnology tools for livestock and crop improvement.
Soil health, fertility management, land degradation, and restoration in dryland agricultural systems.
Value chains, market analysis, smallholder economics, policy, and agricultural development finance.
Adaptation and mitigation strategies, climate-resilient farming systems and sustainability assessments.
Food safety, nutrition, processing, storage, and post-harvest loss reduction along value chains.
Trees on farms, integrated resource management, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services.
Extension methodology, technology adoption, farmer field schools, and agricultural innovation ecosystems.
Traditional knowledge systems, ethno-botany, precision agriculture, and digital tools for Sahelian smallholder systems.
Peer-reviewed studies at the interface of agriculture and other fields: agriculture & public health (zoonoses, One Health, nutrition security); agriculture & veterinary science (animal disease, welfare, epidemiology); agriculture & environmental science (ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, water resources); agriculture & social science (gender, conflict, migration, rural livelihoods); agriculture & ICT (digital extension, remote sensing, precision farming); agriculture & law & policy (land tenure, trade, biosafety regulation).
People
SAJARI is guided by a distinguished board of agricultural scientists and researchers drawn from leading institutions across Nigeria and beyond.
Become a Reviewer: SAJARI regularly invites subject-matter experts to join its peer reviewer pool. How It Works
All manuscripts undergo a rigorous, double-blind peer review process governed by COPE guidelines. Below is the typical journey from submission to publication.
Author submits via email with APC receipt
Scope check, format check, plagiarism scan (≤20%)
Double-blind review by ≥2 independent experts
Author revises; re-review if major changes needed
Accept / Accept with minor revision / Reject
DOI assigned, article published open access

Waiver Policy: Authors from low-income institutions in sub-Saharan Africa who demonstrate financial need may apply for a partial APC waiver. Contact the editorial office for details before submission.
Standards & Integrity
SAJARI upholds the highest standards of scientific integrity across every stage of the editorial process in full accordance with COPE guidelines.
All listed authors must have made substantial intellectual contributions to the study. Gift, ghost, and coercive authorship are prohibited. Corresponding authors attest to the accuracy of the author list at submission.
SAJARI uses strict double-blind review — neither authors nor reviewers know each other's identities. Every manuscript receives evaluation from at least two independent subject-matter experts before an editorial decision is made.
All submissions are screened with Turnitin/iThenticate. A similarity index exceeding 20% results in automatic return to authors. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous consideration elsewhere.
Authors must accurately report methods and results. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data constitutes research misconduct. SAJARI encourages data availability statements and supplementary file submission.
Authors, reviewers, and editors must declare any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could be perceived as influencing the work. Editors recuse themselves from decisions on manuscripts involving their own institutions or collaborators.
Published errors are addressed promptly through correction notices or, where necessary, retraction. SAJARI follows COPE retraction guidelines and maintains a permanent record of all editorial changes with transparent documentation.
Studies involving human subjects must confirm institutional ethical clearance and informed consent. Animal studies must comply with internationally recognised welfare principles. Ethics clearance documentation must be submitted alongside the manuscript.
All SAJARI articles are immediately published open access under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0. Authors retain full copyright. Content may be freely shared, adapted, and redistributed provided appropriate attribution is given to the original publication.
SAJARI is a member of and adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
